Jamaica Reggae SumFest ’13: Lady Saw switching over to Gospel?? Barrington Levy, Flo Rider and more.

Talk about Diversity…

Sumfest 2013 was clearly a hit this year in Jamaica with all of the buzz spreading round . With performances from Popcaan, Beenie Man, Aidonia, Assassin, Beres Hammond, Taurus Riley and a slew of others, many enjoyed the great performances from late night to well into the morning.

Dancehall Queen soon turn into Gospel Queen???
Marion Hall, better known as Lady Saw is changing her tune. What new tune? Gospel. Yes, the renowned, critically acclaimed dancehall queen is making the switch to gospel music. Having been in the music industry as long as she has, (some say as far back as 1985) and the things she has publicly endured and persevered, such as several miscarriages and unhealthy relationships, she says she now “hates the industry” and she wishes she didn’t, but a so it go sometimes. She goes on to say this Sum Fest was her last, and she will not be returning anytime soon, and if so it will be to perform gospel tunes.

Good for her. Great for her. Bless her.

We have to take time to thank the Almighty for all he has done and with someone like her so unexpectedly tackling a genre opposite to the traditional dancehall, openly praising the Almighty, it is inspiring among many other things to say the least. I am anticipating this transition and sound.

Lady Saw is preparing for one more album before the year is done as well as a few performances.

It’s always nice to see the originals like Barrington Levy sing his famous tunes and get the crowd feeling nice.

Many were skeptical about FloRider performing, but he appears to have left a good impression. I’m sure he will be returning to Jamaica soon.

Watch Barrington and FloRida here.
